Can you imagine filling your table with food from your very own neighborhood.  You would know who is growing it and how it was being grown.  The bartering system would be so convenient and a plan could be made before each season for who would grow what;  rotating crops in a organized sort of way.  So - you could literally go out and grab a most of your fresh dinner within minutes.
