What a great time of the year to build your own fire pit. It's getting pretty chilly but not a ton of snow on the ground to slow down this project. If you start your plans now, you could have this complete before Thanksgiving.
I use a portable fire pit on the coldest morning, all winter long, to aid in keeping the frost off my plants. I have vines that get the sheet and string of lights for warmth, but sometimes that just isn't enough. A bit of heat coming off the pit is just enough to help these helpless plants. Usually.
But, if you don't feel a need for a portable unit, what about building in a nice gas pit. If you are capable of do the handy work yourself, it could be very affordable. I found a video that I found pretty informing and also a bit entertaining. The pit being built in the video is not the type I would want but the concept could be used on almost any type of fire pit project. Check this out.
I don't know about you but I was sort of waiting for this guy to cut through the power cord on the saw.
Want to impress your guest and neighbors? Consider a gas pit using fire glass. I am in love with the looks of this stuff. Other than the fact that it is beautiful, I know nothing about it. Here's a little video that shows how you can replace your current stones with fire glass. Of course, if you are building your own pit, just use the glass to start with.
From what I have read, fire glass is odorless, smoke free, is warmer than other medium and you can still make your s'mores and popcorn over it.
Get yourself a nice heavy duty Coleman popcorn basket for camping and back yard fun. Affordable and convenient.
