Emergency Lighting - Mini Preparedness and Camping

Here's a super tip or two that will help you be prepared to light up your space, in an emergency

If you have children around, you have crayons laying around also.  Did you know that a crayon will burn for about 20 - 30  minutes?  That may not be very long but it will help you get a little settled in.  Or you could use them to start a fire if you are short of kindling.

Another lighting tip - and this one you can make in advance and keep stored and ready for an urgent need.

Simple as can be to make - Take an Altoids tin or any other similar container, cut strips of cardboard
to the height of the tin; roll tightly to fit in the container.  Melt wax ( you can use old candles or fresh wax ) until barely fluid and pour into the tin.  Let cool and store in a convenient location, away from open flames.

This will be super for your prepping supplies and also for camping.  Again, this will be a great way to light a fire if you are short on kindling or the wood is damp, like happens so often on the beach.

Melting wax can be very simple but it does take a lot of attention.  Check out this post to see just how easy it can be.  Click here to see more.
