Sapient Conglomeration: Recycling Building Materials

Recycling building materials has become very popular. Back in the 1970's, there were a few scattered salvage yards in the larger cities that had an inventory of 'usable' 'junk' for sale. Some of these yards even gave away materials that they didn't think could be sold. Not the way of life now. Companies like Habitat for Humanity have managed to reach the general public with some great publicity for some extremely amazing charity work.

You can start with something as simple as window panes.

This photo shows one of my favorite concepts for using recyclable materials.

My first thought when I saw this pic was the old saying - Those who live in a glass house shouldn't throw stones. When that little bit of idiom passed, I began to see the great possibilities.

A sturdy frame work, right? And need to find the windows with dimensions that will will match up. Sounds like a bit of a challenge but, with the thousands of recycle windows out there, shouldn't be that difficult. Hinged windows on one end as a door, on the one above. I may go with a glass type door. And a sturdy roof that is translucent; maybe commercial grade acrylic ceiling light panels. And then for the plants. Yep, this would be my little green house. During the winter it wouldn't take much to warm up this little building. A reflecting when the sun is shining and a bit of heat in the nights. My mind is just going sort of nuts with the possibilities.

Or maybe we say - The heck with the plants and turn it into a nice little space to put a nice lounge chair and absorb that winter sun. Great way to maintain your Vitamin D levels. Right?

This building is a bit more complex with a raised floor to make it all level. I think you could hold a small dinner or party in this one.

Odd shapes, colors and materials in this one. Proves that you don't have to be pretty to be beautiful.

Love it! Even the chickens could have a nice little glass house.

Utilizing a wall or sturdy fence may be a really good start for some.

This one is pretty intriguing. Plants on the inside, plants on the outside and some grass growing on the roof. Don't know that I would go to this extent. At least not in the Arizona heat.
