My sister's family did the turkey veggie plate for Thanksgiving. The only way you can feed a large family is to have a family of turkeys. She had two platters to meet the needs. I wish I could have been there - they would have needed to make another plate just for this veggie eater.
I walked into a friends home just before Christmas and noticed how beautiful all the decoration looked. The entire home, inside and out, showed the spirit of the holidays. They had beautiful lights everywhere, including running down the staircase; greenery with trims through out, including the bathrooms; wall hangings that looked like they came from all over the world (I have never seen anything like them) and amazing stockings for each member of the family, including the pets. This family had a professional decorator come in and 'assist' with this 'project'. And there was a special person to do the lighting on the exterior.
You may be thinking this is a dream come true. What could have been missing? There was no personal touch. This place looked like a grand store in down town New York, not a home with crazy, fun kids and pets that fight like cats and dogs. All these designs would have been much better, in my opinion if there was just a bunch of fun stockings. The fact that I love fun stockings may be a huge influence here, but I really do believe it would have added a bit of warmth. S0 - here are some of my favorite stocking of the year.
and of course - never forget the fish, or would that just be a neat one for the cats?
Who doesn't love a gingerbread house project? There have been years when we spent days working on the home of the tasteful gingerbread man. And there were days when we threw something together in a matter of hours, just to say that we did it. Now, as I grow older and don't have quite the patience I had in the past, I have resorted to a new type of gingerbread house. This project has become one of my favorites of the season. Check out the photo and you will understand - completely!
No ingredients were wasted with this project. All could be turned into french toast. If you do not want to appear as lazy as I, then maybe this would be my next favorite. Simple and sturdy; totally edible; and sort of cute when finished off with fun trims like melting snowman cupcakes. The cupcakes being another of my favorites of the year.
Favorite cup cake? Am I the only one who had never seen this cute idea before? Very possible since I had never heard of Elf On The Shelf until last year. Where have I been? Melting snowmen are just cute as can be. Especially since you can add any face you desire.
No list would be complete without a favorite video. Did I come from a Perry Como and Bing Crosby era? Sort of. My Mom was a fan of those guys and I remember the seasonal songs. But anybody who remembers the 80's and the birth of MTV would be searching for the rock video that they could relate to. My favorite video is a great combination of comic and a bit creepy. I love it. Check out Ozzy Osbourne and Jessica Simpson (yeah - that's right - your are not reading it wrong), along with family, singing a good ole' classic.
There is no way to pick a favorite decoration. I would go a little crazy attempting to sort one out. So I will only show you one that I found really neat. Not the type I would usually be attracted to. I love the loud, bold, different, extreme and some times the tacky. This is none of these.
And of all places to find this little goody, in a lobby.

Elaine, my brilliant friend, said that there should be a While Elephant Party, after Christmas. This is a party where you exchange all those gifts that you really don't want. It's mostly about the fun, but there just may be that item that somebody wants to unload and you would really enjoy. Right? Probably not but it would still be fun. Tho the concept is great, you would have to plan the party so that the person who gifted you the time that you will be taking to the party, will not be in attendance.
That's my favs for now. I am already finding a ton of great things to share next year. Maybe even for a Christmas in July post!
